Do you ever have a session, as a photographer that you walk away from and say…that’s me! This was one of those sessions for me.  I’m a crisp color lady….I feel the most comfortable in nature…and I am in love with Fall. I love lighted backdrops of setting sun…and soft glowing faces. It makes me smile…alot.  Even though we have a few more weeks till the leaves start changing in my neck of the woods, I start to get so excited about now. I change my “scentsy scents” to “caramel popcorn” and “pumkin spice”. I start to notice the colors in my work getting even deeper than before and the flairs of sun get a bit less “summery” and  more crisp and exact. I start to feel drawn to be outdoors more and to capture the rich tones of the season to come. All I have to say is…Thank goodness for painters plastic. All of you wedding photographers that don’t believe in “trashing the dress” will know what I mean!  You couldn’t get me in a studio right now for all the money in the world…or a down pour. Actually, not even a down pour. However, studio work will start around February…the “above the garage” studio is beginning. It’ll get us through the winter months for those bitter mountain winters.

Enjoy the rest of these, you two.

If you know anything about me, you know I’ve always been IN LOVE with JCrew (and now Anthropologie is up there with it!) I love the “clean” look…with a bit of flair. For me, shoots are always about LAYERS, DETAILS, and TEXTURES! When the light hits ruffles close to a little ladies face just right, or a chord jacket on a boy…its AWESOME! When you’re choosing clothes, textures and amazing fabrics….rather than bright colors and patterns…is the way to go for Fall. When I stay “neutral”, I find I can add more pieces and have them all work together. Then, I can add a color or two with my “browns and jeans” and have it flow and still speak volumes about who We are as a family.

I remember one time, I was reading Architetural Design and a well know designer said something that has always stuck with me. It was something to this affect… You know someone is a designer when they do things that work together….and then add a few pieces that are “just off a bit.” I approach a shoot this way. Everything still “goes” but its not a perfect match….it adds interest. I do this when posing people…I love it when one little one is looking at the camera while the rest of the family is looking up at “Dad”…or viseversa.  For me, the details in your clothing is one thing that can set YOU apart from someone elses shots…its what says something about who you are/were at that time in your life.

All these clothes came from the JCrew Fall Line. However, it seems that this lavendar, butterscotch, and guava color seems to be popping up all over. And, might I add…if anyone out there that has booked a shoot with me for Fall thinks they can pull this off (or something similar) for a family shoot, I’ll SO give you a HUGE discount on your prints! I’d love to photograph this in a field next to a broken down barn!

PS. I know I put boxers on here for a boy! How cute would a little pair of  “plum boxers” be coming out a bit from the back of a pair of butterscotch chords. Now, if I can just find some argyle socks with the lavendar in them, I’ll be set!

I approach receptions differently than  the “formal” day portraits. To me, its all about the “story” and the emotions. I love that my camera clicks so fast in these moments. I manually meter for the first shot, give the “ok” and then let the moment FLY! I laugh so hard while proofing the bouquet tosses….and giggle at the cake.  I smile really big when I proof the first dance, and often shed a tear while I’m going through the last dance with dad’s. I don’t know, I just love the emotions.  I know they aren’t all technically a-freakin-mazing…but I do love capturing them. Here’s a few from a few weddings ago. It DID help very much that the light was absolutely beautiful for the cake! I saw that sun going behind the house and was so excited to get some flairs for their moment. So, here’s a bit more of the “candid” side of weddings…

This was one of the funniest bouquet toss’ I’ve seen. I was having a hard time holding my camera at the end because I wanted to laugh so bad. I wish I could show every picture in succession….serious sister feud going on over the bouquet. I did, however, include the picture of the ‘pretend’ kick from one of the sisters.

that I EVER get anything else done with sweet little ones like this to edit. More of ALL of you coming soon! I just have got to say that a chair, in a field, with some sweet sunset lighting has got to be one of my favorites lately…..

This has got to be one of the cutest little men I’ve ever photographed! He was a natural in front of the camera…
